How Qura sources care data
Last updated 13 October 2026
Care Intelligence is a research service for care staffing and specialist care suppliers. It brings together public information about registered care services in England (home care, care homes, nursing homes, supported living, and learning disability, mental health and rehabilitation services), the vacancies those services advertise on their own websites, and public care tenders. It holds no information about the people who use care services, and no names of managers or staff.
Where the information comes from
- Care services: the Care Quality Commission's care directory for England, downloaded from the CQC website each time a new file is published (usually monthly). Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Qura uses the directory file only; it does not copy CQC's service profile pages. Qura acknowledges CQC as the source of this information.
- Map positions: each service's postcode is placed on the map using postcodes.io, which publishes Office for National Statistics and Ordnance Survey open data (Open Government Licence).
- Vacancies: the careers or vacancies pages that care providers publish on their own websites, checked about once a day. Each vacancy links back to the original advert, and applications are always made through the employer's own process. Commercial job boards are never read.
- Tenders: public procurement notices from Find a Tender, Contracts Finder, Public Contracts Scotland and Sell2Wales (Open Government Licence), including the end dates of contracts already let.
How QuraBot behaves
- It identifies itself as
QuraBot/1.0 with a link to this page, and obeys each website's robots.txt.
- It reads at most a few pages per website per day, one at a time, and never logs in, fills in forms or gets round paywalls or bot protection.
- Recruitment systems run by third parties are read only after their terms have been reviewed. Until then they are listed as pending.
What Qura does not collect
- No information about people who use care services, their families or their care.
- No names of registered managers, nominated individuals or other staff. The directory file Qura uses does not contain them, and Qura does not add them.
- No personal email addresses. Contact details shown are those the service publishes for itself.
Accuracy and corrections
Care adverts often have no closing date, so a role stays listed while it is still on the provider's page; a role missing from the page on 2 checks in a row is removed, and each advert's own page is re-opened every 3 days. If a listing is wrong, or you run a care service and want it corrected or removed from vacancy monitoring, email privacy@qurahealth.org with the service name and CQC location ID. We reply within 5 working days.
